Broome is a small but extremely popular tropical town in Western Australia and gateway to The Kimberley. It is sometimes marketed for tourists as a tropical paradise with the 22km long Cable Beach complete with camels as the main feature. I reckon small and quiet outback town is much more describing. The weather is tropical and perfect in the dry season – where the town is not so quiet as the population of roughly 15,000 people triples around July! I have somehow ended up in Broome 3 times so far and love slipping into “Broometime” and hanging out here in perfect climate with quirky, funky and weird residents in a charming outback atmospheric town.
Broome have a few great photography spots right around town and here’s a few of my takes on Broome from September 2008:

Broome is a great place to relax for a few days either before or after your Kimberley outback trip. Just remember to not get stuck in “Broometime” sunbaking on the beach all week but get up the Gibb River Road and experience the Kimberley Outback!

Nice work Flemming ! I like Broome too…but then again I love the Kimberley. Gantheaume point is pretty awesome and you have captured it so well in that image ! (stitch or crop ?)

Cable at dawn and dusk are cropped shots, Sun Pictures and Gantheaume Point are stitched shots (somewhere around 9 vertical). I forget to write whether panos stitched or not as I don’t care myself how I achieve the pano, stitch or crop, I’ll choose whatever method I feel works with the scene.

lovely colours in the first complements the ripples.
love the Gantheaume Point. with the golden light hitting the rocks and then the subtle blue of the water.
also love the last one too. it’s such a simple shot.
the colours are amazing and the heavy vignette really works for me. then the slight criss crossing lines in the foreground are very nice.
looks like Broome was a big success for you!
not been to Broome but this sure makes me want to go!

Thanks very much Stephen ! The vignette in last shot is all Nature, I didn’t add anything. It was so late the only light left in the sky was where the sun had set 20 minutes earlier.

Nice arrangement of shots Flemming. Looking at doing a shoot this year in Broome myself. Use to go here as a kid on holidays to a place called “Coconut Wells”.

I use Hugin. I think it’s the same Panorama Tools software, but Hugin it’s free, open source and more ticking and stuff…
